The solidity and flexibility of trees with their branches, trunks and roots provide a perfect image for the comfort, shelter and nourishing connections that families can provide. Aran Islanders knitted this pattern onto their sweaters to represent the Tree of Life reaching deep down into the earth and up into the light of the sky.
