Ciorcal Range

Introducing ciorcal (circle), a new range of pieces from Wild Goose Studio, which came about as a result of a collaboration between the Studio and print students at Ireland’s National College of Art and Design. Drawing on the shape and the distinctive lettering developed for Ireland’s first coins in 1926, these circular hangings have a spacer at the back which allows them to float away from the wall. The four pieces, originally carved in wood, celebrate different aspects of life: love (grá), family (clann), home (abhaile), and belonging (níl aon tinteán mar do thinteán féin). 

The Irish Free State held a competition for the design of its first coins which was overseen by W. B. Yeats and won by Percy Metcalfe. His design, known as the Barnyard Collection and featuring native animals, stayed in use until 1971.

Finished in bronze, these pieces come in a presentation box and measure 23cm in diameter.
