Drawing on the shape and the distinctive lettering developed for Ireland’s first coins in 1926, this circular hanging has a spacer at the back allowing it to float free on the wall. Originally carved in wood by Adam Grabski, níl aon tinteán mar do thinteán féin (there's no fireside like your own fireside)celebrates belonging. This piece is part of the ciorcal (circle) range, which came about as a result of a collaboration between the Studio and print students at Ireland’s National College of Art and Design.
The Irish Free State held a competition for the design of its first coins which was overseen by W. B. Yeats and won by Percy Metcalfe. His design, known as the Barnyard Collection and featuring native animals, stayed in use until 1971.
Finished in bronze, this piece comes in a presentation box and measures 23cm (diameter).
